Lack of access to suitable and safe housing is a very real problem faced by some of NIISQ’s participants, and is an issue that is in the forefront of our minds as part of our commitment to Making Lives Better.
As part of work to strengthen ties with community partners and government agencies, we have been able to establish an excellent working relationship with the Department of Housing and Public Works’ (DHPW) Housing and Homelessness Service. This relationship helps us to assist NIISQ participants identify and find appropriate housing options.
DHPW’s work in providing pathways to safe and accessible housing has been invaluable, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, when some of our participants were faced with the threat of not having a safe place to live.
Our staff have worked tirelessly to establish connections with DHPW to optimise participant housing options and outcomes, with all displaced participants receiving keys to their new homes within 24 hours of our call for support.
This is a great outcome for all involved, and our sincere thanks to Sharon Kenyon, Mythiley Iver and the DHPW team for their help and guidance. We look forward to working with you in the future.
