About the levy

People who sustain serious personal injuries need treatment, care and support for their lifetime. Their injuries are life-changing and impact not only the injured person but also their family, friends and community.

The cost of treatment, care and support over a person’s lifetime can be millions of dollars.

People who are not able to access funding via CTP insurance rely on their own assets, taxpayer-funded healthcare and support services, and family members and friends.

The National Injury Insurance Scheme Queensland will provide treatment, care and support including:

  • Medical and pharmaceutical treatment (e.g. doctor’s appointments, medication)
  • Dental treatment
  • Rehabilitation (e.g. physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy)
  • Respite care
  • Attendant care and support services (e.g. personal care and domestic services)
  • Aids and appliances (e.g. wheelchairs)
  • Prostheses
  • Educational and vocational training
  • Home and transport modifications (e.g. ramps or bathroom rails).

Queenslanders will pay for the Scheme via a levy in conjunction with their Compulsory Third Party (CTP) premium and registration.

The levy will be collected by the Department of Transport and Main Roads with your regular car registration.
