National Injury Insurance Scheme for work-related serious personal injuries
The Workers’ Compensation and Rehabilitation (National Injury Insurance Scheme) Amendment Act 2016 (the Amendment Act) commenced on 8 September 2016.
The Amendment Act amended the Workers’ Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003 and the Workers’ Compensation and Rehabilitation Regulation 2014 to make changes to Queensland’s workers’ compensation scheme, including the implementation of the National Injury Insurance Scheme (NIIS).
The implementation of the NIIS ensures workers who sustain particular serious personal injuries receive necessary and reasonable treatment, care and support payments.
Queensland workers’ compensation insurers have engaged the National Injury Insurance Agency Queensland (NIISQ Agency) to manage eligible workers’ treatment, care and support on their behalf.
