Quarterly newsletter now available

The National Injury Insurance Scheme Queensland (NIISQ) quarterly newsletter including our quarterly Scheme insights report is now available. We’re delighted to bring you stories, updates, and groundbreaking research initiatives that showcase our commitment to improving the lives of people with serious personal injuries.

In this issue we introduce you to Jan, a NIISQ participant whose life has been significantly enhanced through NIISQ-funded home and vehicle modifications. Jan’s story is a testament to the impact our support can have in empowering individuals to maintain their independence and remain active within their communities.

We also recap the recent Cairns and Toowoomba Queensland Brain Injury Collaborative (QBIC) regional roadshows, funded by NIISQ. These events are a crucial platform for connecting with regional partners and community members, fostering a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by those impacted by brain injuries. We’re thrilled to share Mia’s story. Mia, a NIISQ participant, recently shared her experience at the Cairns Roadshow, offering an insightful account of life after a traumatic brain injury.

In our commitment to innovation, we’re excited to announce a new research project focused on developing a Virtual Reality (VR) wheelchair simulation. This project, led by Dr Robert Cuthbert at the University of Queensland, aims to enhance the wheelchair selection process and improve the overall experience for wheelchair users.

We’re also proud to introduce you to Dr Ronak Reshamwala, the new NIISQ-funded Fellow at the Clem Jones Centre for Neurobiology and Stem Cell Research (Griffith University). Dr Reshamwala will be working on a pioneering project to develop a minimally invasive nerve bridge transplantation method for spinal cord injuries.

Finally, we’re pleased to announce the launch of the Aus-InSCI Translation Project, a collaborative effort with Griffith University. This project will analyse data from the Aus-InSCI Community Survey and translate the findings into actionable recommendations for improving spinal cord injury treatment, care, and support.

We hope you find this edition insightful and inspiring. As always, we’re grateful for your continued support and engagement with NIISQ.
