Spinal cord injury guidelines now available for physiotherapists

Guidelines to enhance and standardise care for people with spinal cord injury (SCI) are now available for physiotherapists. It’s the culmination of a partnership between the NIISQ Agency, Metro South Health, Queensland clinicians, interstate representatives, and people with spinal cord injury.

The Physiotherapy Spinal Cord Injury Guidelines will support physiotherapists to provide consistent and high-quality management for spinal cord injury. With almost seventeen per cent of NIISQ participants having sustained a spinal cord injury, this initiative supports our goal to enhance their treatment, care and support.

The guidelines seek to address the entire range of care for individuals with SCI. It covers over 100 key questions related to physiotherapy management and includes evidence-based recommendations and consensus-based opinion statements.

The research team now has their sights set on producing an educational video for physiotherapy practitioners, slated to launch by March 2024.
