NIISQ supports ground-breaking mental health initiative for children and youth with brain or spinal cord injuries
October 14, 2025

The National Injury Insurance Scheme Queensland (NIISQ) is proud to support a Children’s Health Queensland (CHQ) research project aimed at promoting best practice in supporting the mental health and wellbeing of children and youth who have an acquired brain or spinal cord injury. The project is called SHARE (Supporting Health, Adjustment, Recovery and Empowerment).
To carry out this research, the SHARE project has created a Community of Practice (CoP) using CHQ’s iECHO network, called the SHARE ECHO. This is a space where professionals working with children and youth who have a brain or spinal cord injury can connect to discuss deidentified patient cases, problem solve and hear brief presentations on key clinical practice topics.
So far, more than 100 professionals from various sectors including health, mental health, education, and disability have joined the CoP, meeting online once a month to share learnings and build connections with others working in this area. The CoP is open to all, regardless of whether you are currently working with children or youth with brain or spinal cord injuries. Participating in the CoP may serve as an opportunity to enhance your skills and knowledge to support this cohort effectively in the future.
This project reflects our commitment to promoting equitable access to healthcare for children and young people.
For more information, or to join the Community of Practice visit the SHARE (Supporting Health, Adjustment, Recovery and Empowerment for children and adolescents with brain or spinal cord injuries) ECHO webpage.
