NIISQ partners with Griffith University to help recover arm and hand function following serious personal injury
April 1, 2026
The National Injury Insurance Agency, Queensland (NIISQ Agency) is proud to announce a partnership with Griffith University to develop of a neural assistive device called NeuroGrip. This innovative project aims to recover arm and hand function for people following serious personal injury.
As part of the NeuroGrip initiative, researchers will create a neural interface that can read signals from a person’s muscles and accurately predict how they intend to move their hand or arm, using the muscles they can control. The proof-of-concept research will lay the groundwork for future at-home therapies and the development of a wearable device to help people regain natural arm and hand control after paralysis.
This project highlights NIISQ’s commitment to supporting innovative rehabilitation solutions that are user-friendly and tailored to the needs of participants.
We are looking forward to seeing the outcomes of this exciting project. For more information, or to participate in the NeuroGrip project, please contact A/Professor Claudio Pizzolato at c.pizzolato@griffith.edu.au.
