We are excited to release the National Injury Insurance Scheme, Queensland (NIISQ) May 2025 Quarterly newsletter and scheme insights report. This edition is packed with stories, updates and insights into our ongoing commitment to improving the lives of our participants.

In this issue we introduce you to Dave, an electrician from Weipa who sustained a traumatic brain injury in a motor vehicle accident in 2020. Now a NIISQ participant and a member of our Participant Reference Group (PRG), Dave shares his journey of recovery, return to work and his joyous experience of becoming a father.

We’re also excited to officially introduce NIISQ Direct, a digital tool designed to provide our participants with access to approved services, plan details, and soon, the ability to submit reimbursements – anywhere, anytime. This is more than just a digital tool; it’s a shift in how we serve.

In this issue, we also express our gratitude to the inaugural PRG. Their invaluable insights and contributions have greatly enhanced the NIISQ experience.

We’re proud to announce the implementation of Service Approvals, a streamlined process designed to improve our service experience for participants and providers. This new process, which replaced Purchase Orders in February, aligns with participants’ MyPlans, supporting better outcomes.

We also highlight a unique co-design project, a virtual reality (VR) motorised wheelchair simulation, based on an idea from NIISQ participant, John Hitchens. The project is now recruiting participants for its co-design team, marking the commencement of the second phase.

In this issue, we bring you stories, updates and advancements that reflect our ongoing commitment to ensuring our participants have access to services and supports that really matter to them.
