NIISQ unveils major partnership and new initiatives in February 2025 quarterly newsletter

The National Injury Insurance Agency, Queensland (NIISQ Agency)’s latest edition of its quarterly Scheme insights report and newsletter is now available.

In a major announcement, the NIISQ Agency will become the primary funding partner for The Hopkins Centre: Research for Rehabilitation and Resilience, starting from January 2025. This partnership signifies a transition from the previous funding partner, the Motor Accident Insurance Commission (MAIC). The Hopkins Centre is renowned for its cutting-edge research in rehabilitation and resilience, and this new partnership aims to further its mission.

The newsletter also introduces us to Jason, a NIISQ participant who, after his injury, has successfully achieved his goal of contributing to his community. Jason has established a farm stay called ‘Stones Throw Away’, where visitors can connect with nature and farm animals. Jason embodies determination, and we hope you’ll find a sense of motivation and encouragement from him.

In another significant development, the NIISQ Agency launched its Disability service plan on International Day of People with Disability. The plan was co-designed by a staff working group, the Participant Reference Group, and in collaboration with the Queenslanders with Disability Network.

The newsletter also heralds the upcoming launch of voluntary sign up to NIISQ Direct, a secure online portal that will allow participants and their carers to access their MyPlans, goals, and approved services. The portal, previously known as MyNIISQ, will open for voluntary sign-ups soon, with an additional feature for online reimbursements expected to become available later this year.

NIISQ Agency has also developed SMART goal cards to assist participants in setting meaningful and relevant goals post-injury. A short video featuring NIISQ participant, Jan, provides more information about these goal cards.

Finally, the newsletter calls for research participants for a NIISQ-funded project investigating the benefits of technology-enabled homes for people with spinal cord injury (SCI) and traumatic brain injury (TBI). This innovative project underscores NIISQ’s commitment to exploring new ways to support its participants.

The February 2025 quarterly newsletter showcases NIISQ’s ongoing dedication to supporting the community, fostering resilience, and promoting innovative approaches to rehabilitation and recovery.
