New Griffith University spinal cord injury Fellow announced

NIISQ Agency is proud to announce that we are supporting a Fellow, Dr Ronak Reshamwala based at the Clem Jones Centre for Neurobiology and Stem Cell Research (Griffith University) to develop a minimally invasive nerve bridge transplantation method for spinal cord injuries.

The three-year project seeks to advance spinal cord injury treatment and provide more effective and less invasive solutions for individuals with spinal cord injury.

A  key focus of the Fellowship is to enhance the imaging protocol to address the challenge of visualising the injury site in the presence of metalwork, helping improve treatment options and targeted rehabilitation activities.

Dr Reshamwala’s work aligns with the Spinal Cord Injury Repair Project funded by NIISQ affiliate agency, the Motor Accident Insurance Commission (MAIC), and led by Professor James St John.

As the surgeon for the project’s previous preclinical research, Dr Reshamwala collaborates closely with clinicians and has been instrumental in designing the clinical trial. Additionally, he will be advising the Neurosurgeons on the implantation of the nerve bridges into Spinal Cord or patients participating in the trial.

This fellowship will enable the Fellow to work on the next generation of his team’s groundbreaking nerve bridge technology for spinal cord repair, further enhancing its effectiveness and aligning it with the expectations of both the community and clinicians.
