NIISQ hosts lunch and learn on Physiotherapy Clinical Practice Guidelines for People with Spinal Cord Injury
August 13, 2024
NIISQ recently learnt about Physiotherapy Clinical Practice Guidelines for People with Spinal Cord Injuries (SCI) first-hand from Emilie Gollan, Clinical Team Leader Physiotherapist from the Spinal Injuries Unit at Metro South Health.
This session served as a valuable platform to engage NIISQ support planners, providing them with an educational opportunity to learn about the guidelines and how to effectively utilise them in supporting decision-making for our participants.
The NIISQ-funded Physiotherapy Clinical Practice Guidelines for People with SCI project has resulted in the development of comprehensive guidelines and a website for physiotherapists. These guidelines provide evidence-based recommendations and consensus statements to guide the management of individuals with SCI throughout their care journey.
Commencing in 2021 and concluding in March 2024, the project was a collaboration between Metro South Health and NIISQ, expanding a New South Wales initiative. It included a diverse team of physiotherapists, researchers, academics, and participants with SCI.
Strategies and activities to distribute the newly created guidelines included: webinars, lectures, and workshops such as the NIISQ session. These activities see the guidelines move from theory to practice: improving the quality and consistency of physiotherapy interventions for people with SCI.
The NIISQ-funded project demonstrates our commitment to improving the quality of care and support for our participants in the scheme, in this case, by ensuring that physiotherapy interventions for SCI are based on the latest evidence and best practice.
For more information and to access the guidelines, visit the SCI Physiotherapy Guidelines website or view the NIISQ website project summary.
