May 2026 NIISQ quarterly newsletter and scheme insights report out now
May 27, 2026
The NIISQ May 2026 quarterly newsletter and the January – March 2026 Scheme Insights report are now available, featuring key updates and stories for the NIISQ community.
This quarter, we announced a three year investment in the Cure TBI research project with Griffith University focused on developing future treatments for traumatic brain injury, which represents the largest proportion of the NIISQ participant cohort.
We heard from Jacob, a NIISQ lifetime participant, who shared with us his story of redefining purpose through retuning to work and finding joy with loved ones, plus his advice for perseverance after serious personal injury.
Additionally, the Participant Reference Group (PRG) gathered for the first meeting of 2026, where valuable member insights on topics including recovery-focused environments, trauma-informed practice, and the use of artificial intelligence (AI) reinforced the value of co-design and lived experience in shaping NIISQ initiatives and improving outcomes for participants.
Further research highlights include a collaboration with Griffith University to develop a wearable neural assistive device called NeuroGrip, aimed at restoring arm and hand function, and a partnership with The Hopkins Centre to action lived experience insights from people with SCI through the Aus-InSCI Translation Project.
Whether you’re a NIISQ participant, healthcare professional, or industry partner, there’s something for everyone to discover in our May newsletter.
