Congratulations Ellie

A huge congratulations to NIISQ participant Ellie for winning the Injured Worker Achievement Award in the 2021 Safe Work and Return to Work Awards!

While transporting supplies between sites at her civil traineeship for Protech, Ellie was severely injured in a motor vehicle accident where she received multiple injuries resulting in a high amputation of her left leg. We worked with Ellie to coordinate her eligible treatment, care and support through NIISQ. Her rehabilitation journey has included prosthesis trials and training, psychological support, retraining her brain to learn to walk again and ongoing psychological, exercise and physical therapy.

Ellie was determined to return to work and developed a plan to upskill in administrative areas. With the flexibility and support of her employer, Ellie has landed a new role as a Project Management Support Officer with her employer’s client.  

“I am over the moon that I have been able to get back to work. Since my accident I have been through a lot. I have worked hard to improve my mindset and accept that I was facing changes in my life. I also want to thank Sean at NIISQ Agency who has helped me along the way,” Ellie said.

Ellie’s resilience and positive attitude has also led to her becoming a first-time homeowner. Through NIISQ, she was able to access modifications to increase accessibility within her home.
